Holiday Rental Bargain Riverside House Andalucia Malaga Spain

October 29, 2009 | | Comments 0

Just £180 per week. A delightful spot, south west of Ronda inland from Spain’s Costa del Sol (one hour and a half to Marbella; one hour and a quarter to the coast at Estepona). Nearest Airport: Malaga. The house is one of a small terrace of five-year-old properties built beside the river Guadiaro just outside ‘white village’ Jimera de Libar. The house has two floors. On the ground floor is a long living room with fireplace, a separate equipped kitchen – hob, fridge, washing machine, microwave, toaster and coffee-machine (but without oven) Upstairs are two well-proportioned bedrooms (one double and a twin) and a bathroom.
The location is on the edge of the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema; the spot is in a lovely valley with mountains around and great walks. (The area is popular with birdwatchers.) Yet there is good transport – a railway line, with station close to the house, linking you to Algeciras, to the west and Ronda and (further) to Granada to the east.
Jimera
Overlooking beautiful, protected mountain scenery on the edge of the Sierra Grazalema Natural Park Jimera de Libar is in an ideal setting for a most peaceful and relaxing holiday. The property is equidistant from the airports at Malaga, Seville, Jerez and Gibraltar – all within a two-hour drive. Car hire is recommended and easy arranged at the airports. Jimera is also served by train being on the Algeciras – Bobadillas line.
The local area is full of pueblos blancos, whitewashed in the Moorish tradition, with their narrow winding streets and each with their own character and history.
Gastronomy
The local cooking has an important relation to the hunting period. In the spring, asparagus is the base of many culinary creations; in the winter there is honey porridge, and breadcrumbs fried with garlic. All year round there is a vinegar soup. The confectionery creations are especially exquisite, such as meringues, large rusks, crackling tarts and cakes made with oil.
Festivities and traditions
The major festivities in honour of the patron saint, the Virgen de la Salud, take place in August, whereas at the end of May they celebrate a pilgrimage in the Station suburb. Easter is another festivity to bear in mind.
Bars, restaurants, ventas etc.
There are several good, local bars and restuarants in Jimera. On your travels around the area you will pass many roadside ventas—many offering a very reasonable menu del dia (three courses often including wine or glass of beer). The nearby city of Ronda offers all types of local and international cuisine—and at prices to suit all pockets.
Swimming pool
The open air village pool that is just a 5-minute walk down the road from your accommodation. There is a full-size pool and a toddlers pool, too and also a confectionary cabin.

The village has a new municipal swimming pool (summer only) in beautiful setting just under 1km away, There is a restaurant a stone’s throw from the house and at 2 minutes walk a popular bar. We have repeat visitors renting the house again and again.
This is a real escape into authentic Andalucia.
